World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend - This international event created was by John Houck, disc golf's premier course designer. 3 to 6 p.m. $25, includes T-shirt and golf disc. Zilker Park. www. circularproductions.com.
Disc golf fever is catching on in the Austin area. About 100 people entered a two-day Professional Disc Golf Association tournament last weekend at Old Settler's Park. "Disc golf has been around for 20 years, and it is larger now than it has ever been," said Eric Marx of Circular Production, a disc wholesaler. "Less than 10 years ago, there was only one nine-hole disc golf course in Austin. Now there are five 18-hole courses in the area." "We had a lot of stores calling us for more golf discs after the weather was nice a few weekends ago," Marx said. "Since there is no (fee) to play on the courses around town, all you need to do is buy a disc. The low cost is another reason disc golf is getting so popular." Winners at the Master's Doubles and Women's Doubles National Championships last weekend in Round Rock were: Ken Climo and Dave Greenwell in the master's division. Sam Ferrens and Marx took second.
You won't see any irons or woods at the World's Biggest Disc Golf Tournament today. Golfers who use high-tech flying discs to throw their drives and putts are the participants in this daylong tournament, which raises funds for the Austin Parks and Recreation Department. When: 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. today. Where: Zilker Park and Pease Park. World's Biggest In the News Television click here 1000rated.com click here
